Cruises : Bel Espoir / Rara Avis

    Embark !

We organize transatlantic cruises onboard our two sailing 3-mast schooners Bel Espoir II and Rara Avis, as part of our sail training programmes departing from Brest.

It is generally in December that the Bel Espoir II and Rara Avis cast off to Martinique.
From the capital of Martinique Fort de France are organized mini-cruises in all of the West Indies : Dominica, Grenadines, etc.

The voyage resumes in April of the following year and sails back to New York and the Great Lakes, then back to Brest via St Pierre and Miquelon and the Azores.
Bel Espoir II et Rara Avis return to Europe around August.

The ability to live in a group and to take part in onboard tasks are the required conditions to embark. No sailing skills is required.

A contribution towards costs for each of these cruises is required, including accommodation, food, ports fees. All children under 14 pay half-fare. Transportation fees to the boat and home are the responsiblity of passengers, as well as visa fees.

If you don't have enough time available for a complete cruise, we can discuss with you the various options to meet or disembark at certain ports of calls.

Please note : whatever your private motives, Bel Espoir is open to all.
Single person, couples, families, groups of friends, youngters and elder people, sea classes, company trips...

The trainees must take part in all the tasks required onboard, from maneuvers to cleaning dishes (accommodation capacity of 24 to 29 people + crew)

A contribution toward costs from 40 to 50 euros per day and per person is required in order to cover food and cruise fees.

The train or plane fares to the location of the boats are not included and are the responsibility of each passenger.
For the transatlantic cruise Brest to Fort de France, the best option is to buy the return plane ticket to France in Martinique.

We remind you that alcoholic beverages and medication are forbidden onboard.

No specific sailing skills are required. The desire to go and the capacity to live in a group are the most important and crucial qualities required.

No specific equipment is required. We simply recommend you to bring comfortable and warm clothing for the night. A sleeping bag, a pair of sheets and a waterproof jacket are also necessary.

For your leisure activities onboard, don't forget to bring books, music, games...

We also recommend you to bring along a first aid kit (desinfectant, bandages) and a flashlight.

    Please do not forget:

    • A currently valid passport
    • A doctor's certificate stating your physical ability to sail, written by your doctor.
    • A travelling insurance might prove useful.

The contribution toward costs stated for each voyage doesn't include plane or road transportation, it only covers the cruise onboard the boat.

If you disembark in any of the ports of call, the purchase of a plane ticket back will be your entire responsibility.
